Can I use DDR2 or DDR3 RAM if I have a DDR slot?

Q: So I took some configuration test on what type of memory I got and how I can upgrade it. This is what I got. http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=memorynz0.jpg http://img91.imageshack.us/my.php?image=memory2ul5.jpg Now I was looking for a 1gb DDR memory to go with my existing 256mb RAM but all I could find mostly was DDR2 memory stick. Will they go with my current system? And how does this thing look? http://factorydirect.ca/catalog/product_spec.php?pcode=ME1001 If I combine 400MHz with 166MHz will the system slow down to 166MHz or its better I just use the 1GB RAM and don't combine? I know I'm asking a lot of question but I don't want to make any mistake. P.S. Is this a okay video card to play games? http://factorydirect.ca/catalog/product_spec.php?pcode=AT0160

A: You need DDR ram to plug into your system. DDR2 or DDR3 won't work. Look for some PC2700 RAM and buy that. It'll probably be more expensive than DDR2 RAM since not many people manufacture it anymore. If you put in faster memory (assuming your motherboard can handle it), it should automatically slow down to match your existing RAM. If you removed the existing RAM you'd get all of the speed (again, assuming your motherboard can use it, of which I'm not sure). That's not a bad AGP graphics card, but keep in mind with only 1GB of RAM, a Celeron processor, and that video card, you're not going to be running any recent games. I think you'd only be able to play games that are older than 2-3 years. If you just do websurfing, toss in the extra RAM. It will help immensely. If you play games, you might want to consider a newer PC.
