what type of RAM can i add to my computer?

Q: I have a PC with 512MB PC3200 400MHz DDR SDRAM and I want to upgrade to 1024MB. When i try to use media center, it runs sloooooowww. And I'm pretty sure it needs more RAM. When I shop around for a ram, does it strictly have to be 400MHZ, or PC3200? Can I add two 256MB sticks or can i only use a single 512 stick? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

A: it does not have to be PC3200 or 400mhz RAM, but know that if you buy the slower PC2100 RAM, your current PC320 RAM will downclock in speed to run the same as the PC2100 RAM. all of the RAM must be DDR though, which is what your current motherboard supports.
